Sparco Racing Underwear Arrives In-Store For 2024
Racewear news, February 2024
Our first batch of Sparco racing underwear for 2024 has arrived. The box was full of RW-4 long sleeve tops, long johns and balaclavas, and the showroom displays are now stocked with them in a good spread of sizes.
Underwear is the part of a racewear set people tend to leave until last, but most series that ask for an FIA suit ask for approved underwear under it too. Here is what the RW-4 range is and how it fits into a full set.
- First Sparco underwear delivery of 2024 now in the showroom
- RW-4 long sleeve tops, long johns and open face balaclavas
- Relaxed cut in soft touch, flame retardant fabric
- Approved to FIA 8856-2018
- Top and long johns in sizes S to XXL
- Also sold as an RW-4 underwear bundle

The Sparco RW-4 range
The RW-4 is Sparco's relaxed cut underwear line. The fabric is soft to the touch and flame retardant, and the shape is looser than Sparco's tight fitting performance ranges, which makes it more comfortable for a lot of drivers and easier to get on and off between sessions.
The long sleeve top and long johns are approved to FIA 8856-2018, the current standard for racewear, and come in sizes S to XXL. The RW-4 open face balaclava, also approved to FIA 8856-2018, covers your head, neck and throat and leaves the face open, so it works under open and full face helmets.

Why underwear matters
A race suit’s approval assumes there is approved underwear beneath it. The suit, balaclava and underwear work as layers, and most series that call for an FIA suit list underwear and a balaclava in the same rule. It is always worth reading your championship’s regulations before an event.
Garreth’s advice on fit is to measure your chest with a tape, not to go by a shirt size. Race underwear should sit close to the skin, and a loose top bunches at the shoulders under a suit. Our article on whether fire resistant underwear is mandatory covers the rules in more detail.

Underwear bundles for 2024
We have also put together racing underwear bundles for the 2024 season, each with a long sleeve top, long johns and a balaclava, so the three pieces arrive together. They cover Sparco, OMP and Alpinestars, and we keep the items on display in the showroom.
The Sparco RW-4 bundle is the one built around this delivery: the RW-4 balaclava, long sleeve top and long johns, all in white. Once you have a set, our guide to washing and caring for FIA racewear will help it last.
