A weekend’s worth of race kit is an awkward thing to pack. Suit, boots, gloves, underwear, helmet, and everything wants to be kept apart from everything else. This is the bag that does that job rather than a holdall that turns into one damp pile by Sunday.

The liveries

Five to choose from: Martini in silver or red, Gulf, black and red, or black and silver. The Martini and Gulf versions are the reason most people are on this page, and they are proper liveries rather than a logo printed on a plain bag.

What to think about

Decide first whether the helmet is going in this bag or in its own. A helmet needs a soft lined bag of its own if you care about the visor, and packing it loose with boots is how visors get scratched. Plenty of people run a kit bag for the soft kit and a separate helmet bag, and that is the arrangement we would suggest.

If you are travelling to events rather than driving twenty minutes to a local circuit, look at how it carries as well as what it holds. A bag full of race kit is heavier than it looks.

Will a full race kit fit?
It swallows the soft kit comfortably: suit, underwear, gloves, and boots. Helmets are better in their own padded bag, which also stops the visor getting scratched in transit.

Is it worth a dedicated kit bag over a normal holdall?
The difference is compartments and padding in the right places: wet and dry separation, boot pockets that keep tarmac dust off your suit, and padded sections where they matter. A normal holdall works until the first time a buckle rubs a hole in fireproof fabric.

How do I look after it?
Brush it out and wipe it down rather than machine washing, and let it dry open after a wet weekend. Zips last longest if you close them before storage.
