GSM Performance Customer Car Colouring Book Edition 1
The Complete B-G and MOMO Holden Steering Wheel Hub Guide
Holden is a B-G range, and a surprisingly deep one for a make that never sold here in numbers. I am Cameron, I look after the steering wheel side of things at GSM Performance.
Twenty one B-G hubs cover it, against one from MOMO and four from OMP. The part to know is BG8261: one hub that fits the 1978 to 1984 Commodore, the HQ, HJ, HX and HZ, the Torana LJ, LH, LX and UC, and the WB. That is most of the classic Holden line from a single part number.
The one to slow down on is the 1988 to 1994 Commodore, which appears twice at the same price. One listing is a solid hub, the other is collapsible. Read the key features before you add it to the basket.
The in-car photograph in this guide is an AI illustration, generated from our own MOMO product photography so the wheel and its horn button are the real thing.
Why you need a B-G or MOMO boss kit
An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto a Holden column on its own. The column has splines, the back of the wheel has a bolt pattern, and the boss kit is the part that joins the two. It also sets how far the wheel sits from the dash, which decides your reach to the indicator stalks and the clearance over your knees.
B-G machine theirs from cast aluminium in Italy and put the fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring in the box, so nothing is missing halfway through the job. Every B-G hub is drilled twice, for 6 x 70mm and 6 x 74mm.
It joins two different fittings
Your column has splines. The back of the wheel has a bolt pattern. The hub is the only part that speaks both.
It sets how far the wheel sits
The hub decides the distance from the dash, which changes your reach to the indicator stalks and the clearance over your knees.
Nothing else to buy
The fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring are all in the box, so nothing stops you halfway through the job.
Holden repeat parts across models more than most makes, which helps if your car looks unlisted. BG8048 covers the Camira, the 1984 onward Gemini and the Gemini RB. BG8134 does the Apollo and the Nova, BG8060 does the Jackaroo and the Rodeo, and BG8307 covers the EH to HR and the EJ to HD.
The Commodore is the exception and needs care. The 1978 to 1984 car is BG8261, the 1988 to 1994 car is either BG8049 solid or BG8172 collapsible, and the VS from 1995 to 1997 is BG8173. Four listings, three eras, and two of them share a title.
Steering wheel installation explained
So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a MOMO hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same pattern, six bolts on a 70mm circle, written as 6 x 70mm PCD. MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni Racing and the Mountney M-Range all use it. The hub is chosen by your car, the wheel is chosen by you, and nothing locks you into one brand.

How each brand drills its hubs
The Holden B-G boss kit range
Twenty one B-G Holden hubs, all at the same money and all dual drilled. This is the complete list, running from the EJ and EH through the Torana and the HQ to the Barina and the Astra.
BG8261 is the one that does the heavy lifting, covering the 1978 to 1984 Commodore, the HQ to HZ, the Torana LJ to UC and the WB. BG8306 does the Belmont and the 1972 onward Torana, and BG8059 covers the 1975 to 1983 Gemini.
The MOMO and OMP Holden hubs
MOMO list one Holden hub, MK4805 for the Commodore, so this section carries the OMP parts alongside it rather than leaving one card on its own.
OMP add the Barina and three more Commodore listings. Their hubs are a solid, non-collapsible design, which is what most track and competition cars run, and all of them are drilled 6 x 70mm. Worth knowing that the three OMP Commodore listings all carry the same title, so ask us which one suits your year before ordering.

The links here run a live search across the store, so they stay current as the range moves. Between the three brands there are twenty six Holden hubs, which is more than most people expect. If your Holden is not showing up, ask. Several of these cars share a column with a Vauxhall or an Opel of the same era and are listed under those names instead, and we can usually work it out from the chassis number.

A quick release sits between the boss kit and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in a second. Two reasons people fit them. Getting in and out past a fixed wheel in a caged car is awkward, and a wheel that comes off with you is a wheel nobody can drive away with.
B-G Racing do four. The universal and the standard bolt-on versions suit most road and track cars and need nothing modifying. The weld-on 3-point and 6-point are for a car where the column is being cut and welded anyway. All four take the same 6 x 70mm wheels as everything else on this page.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel
Once the hub is sorted the wheel is entirely your choice. These are the ones I would put in a Holden, and I have leaned towards the larger diameters because that is what suits these cars.
In a Torana or an HQ the Prototipo at 370mm looks and feels right, and the Retro or the Mod.07 Heritage Wood suit a car with an original interior. For a later Commodore being used hard, the Sparco 345 or the OMP Corsica gives you quicker hands.

Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The only real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.
Final thoughts
Holden is better covered than most people assume, and BG8261 alone answers the question for a big slice of the classic range. The hub is cheap next to the wheel, and getting it right is a case of matching the model and the year in the listing to your own car.
If you are stuck between the two 1988 to 1994 Commodore listings, and that one does catch people out, drop us a line and ask for me. Send the chassis number over and I will tell you which hub you need before you spend anything.
