The Complete B-G and MOMO Maserati Steering Wheel Hub Guide

The Maserati range is small, ten listings across four models, but there are part code overlaps worth knowing before you order. BG8069 covers both the Merak and the Biturbo. MA5401 covers three models: the Quattroporte, the Biturbo from 1983, and the Karif. And BG8147, the hub for the Maserati TC, is the same part used on a long list of Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth cars from the same period. That one comes down to how the TC was engineered.

I’m Cameron, and I work at GSM Performance fitting and selling this kit. The model table below maps every Maserati to its part code before you click through to the listing.

Why you need a boss kit

A standard Maserati steering column ends in a splined shaft. The factory wheel locates directly onto that spline. An aftermarket wheel has a 6x70mm bolt circle, which is a completely different interface. A boss kit bridges the two: splined to the column on one side, drilled to the wheel bolt pattern on the other. Get the part number right and the fit is exact. There is no universal shortcut for a column-specific spline.

B-G hubs are machined from cast aluminium in Italy, dual drilled at 6x70mm and 6x74mm so they take Nardi and Personal wheels as well as the standard 6x70mm range. MOMO hubs are 6x70mm only but built to the same Italian standard and available for more Maserati models than B-G.

It joins two different fittings

Your column has splines. The back of the wheel has a bolt pattern. The hub is the only part that speaks both.

It sets how far the wheel sits

The hub decides the distance from the dash, which changes your reach to the stalks and the clearance over your knees, and it changes how the car feels to drive.

Nothing else to buy

The fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring are all in the box, so nothing stops you halfway through the job.

When you order, check two things on the listing. First, confirm the model name in the title matches your car. Second, check the collapsible or non-collapsible line. For Maserati, all four B-G hubs are solid non-collapsible. The MOMO range is also predominantly solid, with one exception: the MOMO Kyalami hub (MC4509), which is collapsible. If your car still has airbag wiring through the column, discuss the setup with your installer before ordering.

The model table above should get you to the right part code. If your model is not listed, send us a message and we will check the application list.

Fitting and the 6x70mm bolt pattern

All B-G and MOMO boss kits use the same 6x70mm PCD (pitch circle diameter). That is the standard bolt pattern used by MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni and the B-G Mountney M-range, so any wheel from those brands bolts straight to these hubs.

B-G hubs go a step further: they are dual drilled at both 6x70mm and 6x74mm. That adds compatibility with Nardi and Personal wheels, which run the wider bolt circle. If you are fitting a Nardi or Personal wheel, B-G is the brand to go with.

The B-G Maserati hub range

B-G Racing make four separate hubs for Maserati, covering most of the pre-2000 range. The BG8069 is worth noting: it fits both the Merak and the Biturbo despite those cars spanning different production eras. The TC gets its own part, BG8147, which also covers the Chrysler K-platform cars the TC shared its steering column with. The Ghibli (1992–1998) takes the BG8264. All four are non-collapsible. B-G hubs are dual-drilled to take either the 6×70mm or the 6×74mm PCD wheel pattern.

The MOMO Maserati hub range

MOMO make four hubs for Maserati, and MA5401 is the one worth knowing. It covers three models: the Quattroporte (1963 to 1990), the Biturbo from 1983, and the Karif. If you have any of those three cars, one part code fits all of them. MC4509 is the Kyalami-specific hub and the only collapsible unit in the range.

The Biturbo has both a B-G hub (BG8069) and a MOMO hub (MA5401, from 1983). Both are correct fitments. The choice comes down to wheel brand preference and whether you need the B-G dual drilling for a Nardi or Personal wheel.

The OMP Maserati hubs and the TC connection

OMP make two Maserati hubs. OD1960MS869 fits the 4 Porte (Quattroporte) and OD1960CH925 fits the TC. Both are solid non-collapsible.

The TC is worth a separate mention. It was built between 1987 and 1991 as a joint Chrysler-Maserati project: Chrysler provided the K-car platform and the convertible body, Maserati supplied the twin-cam engine and interior. The steering column came from Chrysler. That is why BG8147 appears on the Maserati TC listing and also on a long list of Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth cars from the same period: the Le Baron, the Caravan, the Daytona, the Shadow, the Spirit and others. The column dimensions are shared. If you find the B-G TC hub in a Chrysler search, that is why.

Quick release adaptors

A quick release fits between the hub and the wheel. It lets you pull the wheel off in a few seconds, useful in a bucket seat car where the extra room to get in and out matters. The four B-G quick releases below all bolt to the standard 6x70mm PCD, so they are compatible with every hub on this page.

B-G Racing quick releaseFittingSuits
UniversalBolt-onMost road and track cars, nothing to modify
StandardBolt-onThe same job in the heavier duty version
Weld-On 3-PointWeld-onA column that is already being cut and welded
Weld-On 6-PointWeld-onAs above, with the stiffer six bolt fixing

All four units below use a push-button release and the hub adapter is included. They take any 6x70mm wheel, which covers the full range we stock.

Pair it with a steering wheel

With the hub on the column, the wheel bolts to the standard 6x70mm face. The ten wheels below are a selection from our stock, from the OMP WRC at the entry level to wood-rim options that sit well with a Maserati’s burl cabin. A full range is available in the steering wheels section.

For a Maserati with a wood-trim cabin, a wood-rim wheel sits naturally with the dashboard. The MOMO Montecarlo Heritage or an OMP Trecento both work well in that interior. For more track-oriented use, the OMP WRC is the practical choice.

A few final thoughts

Maserati hub fitment is straightforward once you have the right part code. The model table at the top of this page should get you there. The main catch is the TC: it looks like a Maserati from the outside but uses a Chrysler steering column, so the hub it takes also fits Dodge and Plymouth cars of the same era. If you find the B-G TC listing in a Chrysler search, that is why.

If your model is not in the table, or you are unsure which of two part codes applies to your year, send us a message. We can check the application list.
