The Complete B-G and MOMO MG Steering Wheel Hub Guide
MG is the make where the part number tells you more than the badge does. I am Cameron, I look after the steering wheel side of things here at GSM Performance, and every hub on this page is one we hold and have the fitment notes for.
The thing that catches people out is that an MG hub is rarely unique to the car on the badge. The B-G hub that fits a 1962 to 1967 MGB is the same part that fits the Midget of those same years. The MOMO hub for the Midget MK1 is the same part as the one for the 1968 to 1969 MGB, and the same part again for the Austin-Healey Sprite. The MGA shares its B-G hub with the classic Mini Cooper. That is British Leyland building a lot of different cars around a small number of columns, and it works in your favour, because our fourteen MG listings come down to nine actual parts.
So work from the year the car was built rather than the name on the boot lid. The photograph on this page is an AI illustration generated from our own product photography.
Why you need a B-G or MOMO boss kit
An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto an MG column on its own. The boss kit is the part that makes it possible, and it does three jobs at once.
It joins two different fittings
Your column has splines. The back of the wheel has a bolt pattern. The hub is the only part that speaks both.
It sets how far the wheel sits
The hub decides the distance from the dash, which changes your reach to the stalks and the clearance over your knees, and in a Midget there is not much of either to spare.
Nothing else to buy
The fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring are all in the box, so nothing stops you halfway through the job.
The MGB splits four ways on year. BG8326 covers 1962 to 1967, MOMO MK7800 covers 1968 to 1969, BG8328 covers 1970 to 1976 and BG8329 covers 1977 onward.
The Midget shares two of those outright, BG8326 on the MKII and the early MKIII, and BG8329 on the MK IV, with BG8330 filling the 1968 to 1969 MKIII. The MGA has its own part in BG8240 and the MGF has MK4928R.
Steering wheel installation explained
So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a MOMO hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same pattern, six bolts on a 70mm circle, written as 6 x 70mm PCD. MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni Racing and the Mountney M-Range all use it. The hub is chosen by your car, the wheel is chosen by you, and nothing locks you into one brand.

How each brand drills its hubs
The MG B-G boss kit range
Nine B-G MG hubs, all dual drilled and all solid, and between them they are six parts. BG8326 is the busy one, covering the 1962 to 1967 MGB along with the Midget MKII and the early MKIII. BG8329 does the same job at the other end of the range, covering the 1977 onward MGB and the 1974 to 1979 Midget MK IV.
The MGA runs BG8240, which is also the hub for the classic Mini Cooper, the Mini Clubman and the Austin Healey. If you have an MG Metro the part is BG8002, and we list it as Austin Metro MG1300, so it is included below because that is where people actually look for it.
The MOMO and OMP MG hubs
Four MOMO MG hubs and one from OMP. The MOMO parts are collapsible and drilled 6 x 70mm, and MK7800 is the one worth knowing about. It covers the Midget MK1, the 1968 to 1969 MGB and the MGB GT of those two years, it measures 16mm with 36 splines, and the same part carries the Austin-Healey Sprite MK1 and MK2 as well.
The MGF takes MK4928R, which it shares with the Rover 25 and the Freelander, and that makes sense once you remember who was building it. The OMP hub covers the MGB and is a solid design.

OMP
1 MG hub
A solid design machined for the MGB and drilled 6 x 70mm, so it takes the same wheels as everything else here.

A quick release sits between the boss kit and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in a second. On an MGB or a Midget that is worth more than it sounds, because these are small cars with a wide sill and a fixed wheel to climb over, and taking the wheel off makes getting in and out far easier. A wheel that comes off with you is also a wheel nobody can drive away with.
All four take the same 6 x 70mm wheels as everything else on this page, so the wheel you choose further down will fit whichever one you pick.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel
Once the hub is sorted the wheel is entirely your choice. On an MG people tend to go one of two ways, either a wood rim that suits the age of the car or a plain black leather three spoke that sits quietly in the cabin. These are the ones I would put on an MGB or a Midget.

Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The only real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.
Final thoughts
MG turns out to be one of the easier makes to buy for, because the answer is nearly always shared with something else. Work out the year and in most cases the hub is the same one we sell for a Midget, a Sprite or a Mini, which is why we keep them on the shelf. The part is cheap next to the wheel and there is very little to get wrong.
If you are stuck between two listings, or your car sits close to one of the year changes, drop us a line and ask for me. Send the registration over and I will tell you which hub you need before you spend anything.
