The Complete B-G and MOMO Mini Steering Wheel Hub Guide

If you have been searching for a Mini boss kit and keep finding the wrong part, the most likely reason is the generation split. The classic Rover Mini, the BMW R50-R53 and the BMW F-series all run on different steering columns, and each one needs a different hub. I am Cameron, I look after the steering wheel side at GSM Performance, and every hub on this page is one we stock and have the fitment notes for.

The chart below groups the range by part code so you can find your generation in one pass. For the R50-R53 era, the B-G BG8179 is collapsible, which is the right choice for most UK-registered cars. The F-series (F55, F56, F57) runs on BG8245, and that part is shared with several mainstream BMW F-chassis models, so if you come up empty searching Mini, searching BMW 1 Series in the B-G range will find the same hub.

Why you need a B-G or MOMO boss kit

An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto a Mini column on its own. The boss kit is the part that bridges the column splines to the wheel bolt pattern, and it does three jobs at once.

It joins two different fittings

Your column has splines. The back of the wheel has a bolt pattern. The hub is the only part that speaks both.

It sets how far the wheel sits

The hub decides the distance from the dash, which changes your reach to the stalks. On a Mini where the dash sits close anyway, that inch matters more than it does in a bigger car.

Nothing else to buy

The fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring are all in the box, so nothing stops you halfway through the job.

Match the listing to the generation, not just the model name. Mini One and Mini Cooper appear across three completely different platforms. The chart in the section below maps every chassis code and year range to the correct hub code.

The 1991 to 1996 range has both collapsible and solid B-G options depending on the spec. Mayfair and Cooper variants use BG8194 (collapsible). The base Rover Mini listing uses BG8101 (solid). If you are not sure which applies to your car, send us the registration and we will confirm it.

Steering wheel installation explained

So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a MOMO hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same pattern, six bolts on a 70mm circle, written as 6 x 70mm PCD. MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni Racing and the Mountney M-Range all use it. The hub is chosen by your car, the wheel is chosen by you, and nothing locks you into one brand.

Three generations of Mini, ten hub codes

The Mini changed ownership twice and the steering column changed each time. Find your chassis code or year on the right, read the hub code off the left.

The green ones are the catch. BG8245 uses the same steering column as the BMW 1, 2, 3 and 4 Series F-chassis (2011 to 2019) and the M2. If you search for your F55 or F56 hub and come up empty, searching BMW 1 Series or BMW 3 Series in the B-G range will find it. The OMP OD1960BM963 covers all BMW Mini Cooper models after 2007, so it spans the R56 generation through to the current F-series. Codes and fitments come from the fitment line on our own product listings.

The B-G Mini boss kit range

Fifteen B-G hubs cover the full Mini range from the early Rover Mini through to the current F-series. All of them are dual drilled for 6x70mm and 6x74mm PCD, so they fit MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Nardi and Mountney M-Range wheels without adapters.

The pre-1990 hubs are solid. From 1991 the range splits by trim: the Mayfair and Cooper listings use BG8194, which is collapsible, while the base Rover Mini listing uses BG8101, which is solid. The R50-R53 BMW Mini runs on BG8179 (collapsible). The F-series uses BG8245, the same part as several BMW 1, 2, 3 and 4 Series F-chassis models from 2011 to 2019.

The MOMO and OMP Mini hubs

MOMO made two Rover Mini hubs, both solid: MA5801 for the pre-1990 cars and MA5802 for the 1991 to 1996 range. OMP covers the BMW Mini platform. OD1960BM784A fits the R50, R52 and R53 (2002 to 2007). OD1960BM963 covers all BMW Mini Cooper models after 2007, which includes the R56 generation that the B-G range does not list as a separate product, so if your car is a 2008 to 2012 Mini Cooper, this OMP hub is where to look.

Explore the Mini range

The button below filters to B-G boss kits for Mini so the listing stays current as stock moves. MOMO and OMP do not have a category search that returns only Mini results cleanly, so those brands are in the product section above.

Why not add a steering wheel quick release kit

A quick release sits between the hub and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in a second. On a Mini where the cabin is already compact, getting the wheel out of the way when you climb in and out makes a genuine difference. A wheel that comes off with you is also one a thief cannot drive away with.

B-G Racing quick releaseFittingSuits
UniversalBolt-onMost road and track cars, nothing to modify
StandardBolt-onThe same job in the heavier duty version
Weld-On 3-PointWeld-onA column that is already being cut and welded
Weld-On 6-PointWeld-onAs above, with the stiffer six bolt fixing

All four take the same 6x70mm wheel bolt pattern as the boss kits on this page, so the wheel you pick below will fit whichever quick release you go with.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel

Once the hub is sorted the wheel is your choice. On a classic Mini the wood rim and heritage styles sit naturally with the interior. On a BMW Mini the same wheels work but you might lean towards a smaller diameter to gain some legroom around the dash. These are the ones I would put in a Mini.

Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The only real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.

Final thoughts

The generation split catches most people out on the Mini, and it catches them twice: once when the model name matches but the chassis code is wrong, and again when the R56 window (2007 to 2013) comes up empty in the B-G range. OMP OD1960BM963 covers that generation, and it is in the MOMO and OMP section above.

The F-series connection to the mainstream BMW range is worth knowing. If you ever search BG8245 and only see BMW listings coming up, that is the same part, the same column spline, and it will fit your F56 Mini as well. All 19 hubs on this page are in stock and ready to go.
