Customer Question: Are MOMO, Sparco And OMP Boss Kits And Steering Wheels All Compatible?
Steering wheel fitting guide
One of the questions we are asked most at the counter: will a MOMO boss kit take a Sparco wheel, or an OMP wheel go on a Sparco quick release? In almost every case, yes. MOMO, Sparco and OMP wheels, and the boss kits and quick releases made for them, share the same six-bolt mounting pattern, so you can mix the brands.
This guide explains the bolt pattern, how the parts stack up on the column, the one pattern that does not match, and what to check before you order.
- MOMO, Sparco and OMP wheels use a six-bolt pattern on a 70 mm circle (6x70 mm PCD)
- Boss kits and quick releases from these brands use the same pattern
- Nardi and Personal wheels use a larger 6x74 mm pattern
- The boss kit is specific to your car; the wheel is not
- Order of parts: column, boss kit, quick release (optional), wheel
- Fitting an aftermarket wheel removes the factory airbag

What is on this page
The short answer
Yes, they are compatible. MOMO, Sparco and OMP all drill their wheels with six holes on a 70 mm circle, known as a 6×70 mm PCD (pitch circle diameter). Their boss kits and quick releases are drilled the same way. The same pattern is used by other brands such as NRG, so a wheel from one of them lines up with a boss or quick release from another.
In practice that means you choose the boss kit for your car, and then choose the wheel you like. A Sparco wheel on a MOMO boss, or an OMP wheel on a B-G Racing boss, bolts straight on.
How the parts fit together
An aftermarket wheel setup has two or three parts, in this order: steering column, boss kit, quick release if you want one, then the wheel.
The boss kit (also called a hub or hub adapter) is the part that is specific to your car. One end has the spline that matches your steering column; the other end is a flat face drilled 6x70 mm. It converts your car's column into the standard pattern, and it usually carries the horn contact and the tab that cancels the indicators.

A quick release is optional. It comes in two halves: one bolts to the boss kit, the other to the wheel, and they lock together so the wheel lifts off in seconds. It also moves the wheel closer to you, which is worth knowing if you are already close to the dash. The wheel itself goes on last, with six bolts through its centre and a horn push to cover them.
The boss kit is always needed. A quick release on its own will not fit the splines on your column.
The exception: 6x74 mm wheels
Not every wheel uses 6×70 mm. Nardi and Personal wheels use a slightly larger 6×74 mm pattern, and some older British wheels use a different pattern again. These will not bolt straight onto a 6×70 mm boss.
There are ways round it. Some quick releases are drilled for both patterns, such as the B-G Racing universal quick release, which takes 6×70 mm and 6×74 mm. Adapter plates are also made to convert one pattern to the other. If your wheel is not MOMO, Sparco or OMP, check its pattern before you order anything.
Boss kits and quick releases we sell
We sell boss kits from MOMO and B-G Racing, and OMP and Sparco boss kits for a long list of cars, from classic Minis and Porsches to modern hot hatches. Between them they cover a very wide range of vehicles. Each kit is made for a specific car or group of cars, and every one gives you the standard 6×70 mm face.
For quick releases we carry bolt-on kits from Sparco, OMP and B-G Racing, and a weld-on quick release from Sabelt. Because they share the pattern, you can pair any of them with any of the wheels above. Browse the full boss kit range, or see a make-by-make example in our Volkswagen hub guide.

What to check before you order
Start with the boss kit, because it is the only part that depends on your car. Give us the make, model and year, and for some cars the exact version, since the spline can change within a model range.
Then think about reach. A quick release adds depth, and a dished wheel brings the rim towards you. If you sit close to the wheel already, a flat wheel and no quick release may be the better combination. Our steering wheel dish guide covers this in detail.
Finally, the airbag. Taking off a factory airbag wheel removes the airbag, and on many cars it leaves a warning light on the dash. Garreth’s advice is to think about that before you start, and to ask us if you are unsure what your car will need.
Will a Sparco steering wheel fit a MOMO boss kit?
Yes. Both use the 6×70 mm bolt pattern, so the holes line up.
Do I need a Sparco or OMP boss kit for a Sparco or OMP wheel?
No. Any boss kit with a 6×70 mm face, including MOMO and B-G Racing, will take the wheel.
Can I use a quick release from a different brand to my wheel?
Yes, as long as both are 6×70 mm, which is the case for MOMO, Sparco and OMP.
Do Nardi wheels fit MOMO boss kits?
Not directly. Nardi and Personal wheels use a 6×74 mm pattern, so you need a dual-pattern quick release or an adapter.
Do I still need a boss kit if I buy a quick release?
Yes. The boss kit fits your steering column; the quick release sits between the boss kit and the wheel.
Get the car-specific boss kit right and any 6x70 mm wheel will bolt on.
Give us the make, model and year and we will match the boss kit, and a quick release if you want one.
