The Sparco X-Pro in Martini Racing livery, part number 003378MRBI. ECE 22.06 approved, ATM thermoplastic shell, full-face design with a micro-step ratchet visor. Sizes from XS (53 to 54cm) to XXL (62 to 63cm).

The X-Pro is Sparco’s entry-level full-face helmet, priced at the accessible end of their track day and karting range. ECE 22.06 is the current approval standard for non-FIA events, accepted at most UK track days and at indoor karting venues that require a full-face helmet. It’s not the correct standard for sprint or circuit racing series that specifically require FIA homologation, so check your event regulations before buying if you’re moving up from recreational track days into a championship.

The visor runs on a micro-step ratchet, which lets you lock it at a partial opening for ventilation rather than choosing between fully closed and fully open. The chin vent and crown vent both open and close independently, giving you some control over airflow on track. The inner lining is hypoallergenic and removable for washing, which matters over a full season of regular use.

The ATM shell (Advanced Thermo Material) is thermoplastic. Lighter than polycarbonate at a comparable protection level, which matters for neck fatigue in longer sessions.

The Martini Racing version has the same construction as the standard X-Pro but carries the livery. It pairs well with Sparco Martini Racing gloves or kit bag if you’re building a matching kit. For the standard colourways at a slightly lower price, the plain X-Pro is the starting point. Both carry the same approval and the same shell.

Track day helmet size guide

Track day helmets are sized model by model, and every size option on the site carries the head measurement inside the name. Measure once, then pick the option whose centimetre range contains your number. The letter on its own will mislead you.

Read the number, not the letterA Sparco track day L is a 60 cm head on the X-Pro, a 58 to 59 cm head on the Gulf and Martini X-Pro, and a 60 to 61 cm head on the Club X1. Same brand, same letter, three different heads.

Measure the head

A dash means that range has no size at that measurement. The Sparco X-Pro and J-Pro both skip 59 cm, so if you measure 59 you are choosing between an M that may be tight and an L that may be loose. Ring us on that one, or look at the Gulf and Martini X-Pro or the Club X1, which both cover it.

What ECE means for you

Everything in this category is homologated to ECE 22-06 or the older ECE 22.05, which is the European road motorcycle standard rather than a motorsport one. That is what makes these helmets good value for track days, sprints and open pit lane sessions, and it is why they cover a wider size range and cost less than an FIA helmet.

It also means most circuit championships will not accept them, because those require an FIA 8859 or 8860 helmet, or a Snell SA. If you are moving from track days into competition, check your regulations before you buy, and have a look at our motorsport helmet range instead. Open face or full face

An open face sits differently because there is no chin bar pulling the shell forward, and it is built on a separate set of shells, so do not assume your full face size carries across. The open face options here also suit a road car with a roll cage where getting a full face on and off through a cage bar is awkward.

How it should fit

Snug enough that it is slightly awkward to pull on, with the cheek pads pushing your cheeks up. With the strap done up you should not be able to rotate the helmet forwards off your head. The lining beds in over the first few sessions, so a helmet that is merely comfortable out of the box will be loose by the end of the season.

How do I get the right size?
Measure around your head at the widest point, about an inch above your eyebrows, and match the centimetres to the size options (this one runs from roughly 53cm to 63cm). The fit should be snug all round with no pressure points, and it should not rotate when you shake your head. Between sizes, try the smaller one first, as linings bed in. What can I use it for?
Practice, corporate, and rental karting, plus car track days: it carries ECE 22-06 approval, the road standard, which UK track day organisers accept. What it is not valid for is competition, karting or car, so for club karting you need a CMR, CMS, Snell K, or FIA 8878 helmet, and for car events one from the Motorsport UK list. How do I look after it?
Store it in its bag away from heat and direct sun, clean the shell with mild soap and water only (solvents attack the finish and the shell), and let the lining air out after use. And the big one: after any significant impact, replace the helmet even if it looks fine, as the protective liner is designed to crush once.
