Visor Tear-Offs And FIA Helmets: Which Of Our Helmets Take Them
An email landed this week from a customer putting together a helmet and HANS order. He liked the look of the Bell GT6 Sport with the Simpson Hybrid Sport, which is a package we put together often enough that it has its own listing, and he had one question before committing: does that helmet and visor take tear-offs?
It does, and the pack is £31.20. But it was a better question than he knew, because the answer changes from helmet to helmet across our range, the packs do not interchange between visor families, and for some helmets we sell there is no tear-off listed at all. So here is the whole picture in one place.
- The Bell GT6 and HP6 take tear-offs on the SE06 visor. Pack of 10, £31.20
- Tear-off packs are visor specific. A 6-Series pack does not fit a 7-Series visor
- Bell, Arai, Stilo and Sparco packs are in stock. Some helmet families have none listed
- Open face helmets run a peak instead. Tear-offs do not apply

What tear-offs are and who runs them
A tear-off is a thin, optically clear film that sits over the outside of the visor on two posts. When it picks up enough mud, rubber or flies that you are looking through the dirt instead of past it, you pull the tab and rip the layer away, and you are back to a clean screen without lifting the visor or wiping anything mid-stage.
Rally crews run them as standard, and anyone racing a car that throws up debris behind another car will want them. On a track day in the dry you can live without them. Cameron’s rule of thumb across the counter is simple: if you have ever finished a session and wiped your visor with your glove, buy the pack.
Two things decide whether a given helmet takes them. The visor needs tear-off posts, which on current Bell, Stilo and Arai competition visors are there from the factory. And the pack has to be cut for that visor: the post spacing and the curve are different between families, so a 6-Series Bell pack is no use on a 7-Series Bell, never mind on a Stilo.
Bell, family by family
Bell is our biggest helmet range and the answer splits cleanly by visor series, so check which visor your helmet wears and read across.

Arai
One pack covers the range we sell, and at £14.99 it is the cheapest on this page. The Arai tear-offs fit the GP-6S, GP-6RC and SK-6, plus the CK-6 kart helmet.
If you are buying any of those, add the pack to the order and be done. The 6-Series visor they sit on is below too, for when yours picks up a stone chip.

Stilo
Stilo build the tear-off posts into their current ST6 visors, so an ST6 F or FN is ready for tear-offs the day it arrives. The wrinkle is on our shelf: the pack we hold is the ST5 stacked system, and ST5 and ST6 tear-offs are cut to different post spacings, so one does not do the other.
Running an ST6 and want tear-offs? Ring us and we will order the ST6 kit in with your helmet. The stacked ST5 set stays listed because it is the right part for the ST5s still out in service. The Venti and Venti4 are the honest unknown: Stilo do not publish tear-off fitment for them and we will not guess, so ask and we will confirm before you spend anything.

Sparco
The Sparco pack we stock is cut for the RF and KF helmets at £24.22, which covers the karting range below and the Prime RF-9W.
For the Stealth, the X-Pro and the rest of the Prime range there is no tear-off listed with us. Treat those like the Stilo Venti: ask first and we will chase the right part number with Sparco.

The helmets with nothing listed
Straight answers on the rest of the range, because a compatibility guide that only lists the wins is not much of a guide.
OMP, Schuberth and Zamp helmets currently have no tear-off product with us at all. The Simpson packs on the site are spares for helmets we no longer sell, so ignore them unless you already own the helmet. And every open face helmet on the site, whichever brand, takes a peak rather than tear-offs, which is a different conversation and a different part.

What we would order
For the customer whose email started this: the GT6 Sport and Hybrid Sport package, plus the 6-Series tear-off pack at £31.20, and that is the whole order sorted in one go. Garreth’s view on the pack is that at that money against a £1,000-plus helmet it is not a decision, it is a line on the order.
The same logic goes for anyone buying a helmet from the yes column above. Add the pack that matches the visor at the time you buy the helmet, because it is a £15 to £31 part that stops you wiping a £90 visor with a muddy glove.
If your helmet is in an ask-us row, ring 0115 9893488 with the model and Cameron will confirm the visor it wears and get the manufacturer’s own pack on order. Or bring the helmet in and we will look at the posts together.
Common questions
Do tear-offs fit any visor?
No. The pack has to be cut for the visor family: the post spacing and the curvature differ between them. A Bell 6-Series pack fits the SE06 visor on the GT6 and HP6 and nothing else. Buying by helmet model is the safe way, and it is how our listings are set up.
Does the Bell GT6 Sport come ready for tear-offs?
Yes. The SE06 visor on every GT6 and HP6 carries the tear-off posts from the factory, so the pack goes straight on. No drilling, no extra kit.
How many come in a pack and how long do they last?
The Bell packs are ten strips of 0.25mm film. How long they last is entirely about conditions: a muddy rally stage can eat several in a day, a clean circuit sprint might not need one. Most people fit two or three layers before an event and pull them as they go.
Can I stack more than one tear-off?
Yes, stacking two or three is normal practice, and it is the point of the Stilo stacked system. Fit them cleanly with no trapped dust between layers or you will be looking through the specks all day.
Will fitting tear-offs affect my helmet's FIA approval?
The approval belongs to the helmet, and manufacturers make these packs for their own homologated visors. Use the maker's own pack for your visor, which is what we sell, and check your championship regulations if you are unsure what your scrutineer expects.
My helmet is not in the table. What now?
Ring us on 0115 9893488 with the exact model, or email a photo of the visor pivot area. We will identify the visor, confirm whether it carries posts, and order the manufacturer's own pack if one exists.
