The OMP PRO Mech-S is a padded Nomex mechanics glove, homologated to FIA 8856-2018. Part number IB/75BA.
Why a mechanic needs a fireproof glove
Refuelling and hot work during a pit stop, mostly. In series that allow refuelling, the crew handling the hose are working next to fuel and a hot car, and the regulations reflect that. Even where they do not, an exhaust manifold at the end of a stint will take skin off through an ordinary glove.
Approval
OMP list these as FIA 8856-2018, which is the racewear standard. Crew equipment requirements vary between series and are not always the same as driver requirements, so tell us what you are running in and we will check it against the regulations rather than assume.
The practical details
Padded Nomex with reinforcement over the knuckles, which is the part that meets the bodywork when a wheel gun slips. Silicone inserts on the palms and fingers for grip, which matters with fuel and oil about.
They are cut for working rather than for driving, so they are bulkier than a driving glove. That is deliberate.
Tell us your hand size and we will get it right.
