A plumbed-in, mechanically-operated fire suppression system for closed cockpit saloon race and rally cars. The bottle holds 4.25 litres of AFFF foam (aqueous film-forming foam), which gives strong knockdown on fuel and engine fires and is classified as environmentally friendly. Part number 014772MSL.

It carries FIA Technical List 16 approval with homologation number Ex.052.18, alongside MSA approval. Those are the credentials your scrutineer will be checking if your class regulations require an approved fire suppression system. If you’re building a car to a specific championship or permit class, compare the homologation number against the written regulations before purchasing.

The kit is complete: steel bottle with mounting bracket and strap, two pull cables for the activation handles (one for the driver, one for an external operator), nozzles, T-connectors, alloy tubing, and a decal pack. Everything needed to install and run the system is in the box. You’ll need to route the tubing to the correct zones in the car and position the nozzles at the engine bay and cockpit, but that installation is fully covered by what’s supplied.

Mechanical activation means the bottle fires when a cable is pulled directly, with no electrical circuit between the driver and the agent release. That simplicity is one reason it’s common in budget club racing and rally builds where electrical gremlins are a real concern on older cars.

The bottle is red steel. Most builders mount it in the boot or behind a seat to keep it outside the cockpit and away from the most likely heat sources, but placement is your choice within the regs.

What is the difference between mechanical and electrical systems?
How you set them off. A mechanical system fires by pull cable from the cockpit, an electrical system fires from a button that can sit anywhere and adds an external trigger point for marshals more easily. This is the mechanical version. Both plumb into nozzles around the engine bay and cockpit.

Is it accepted by scrutineers?
It carries FIA Technical List 16 Approved, MSA Approved status. Extinguisher requirements are set per discipline, including capacity and whether a plumbed system is required, so check your regulations for the exact requirement and ask us if you want us to match a system to your series.

Does it need servicing?
Yes. Extinguishers carry a service date and need periodic servicing to the manufacturer schedule, which scrutineers do check, so factor a service into your running costs and note the date on the bottle when it arrives.

Can I install it myself?
A competent home builder can: the work is mounting the bottle securely, routing the plumbing to the nozzle points, and rigging the trigger. The instructions cover the layout, and we can advise on nozzle placement for your car if you tell us what you are building.
